Grand Mufti: Dragging religion into partisan politics is a calamity and Egyptians need to stand united

The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Ali Gomaa, warned against shedding blood and sewing discord among Egyptians for some minor political interests by different parties. He also called for allocating the extravagant amount of money used for political partisanship to direct it towards building Egypt.

He emphasized that Egypt is passing through an intricate transitional political phase which has its concomitant results on economics, education and health. He added further that Egyptians need to stay united and rise above minor partisan politics and the extravagant funding wasted on political partisanship is better spent on building Egypt.

He ended his statement with emphasizing on the role of the real religious scholar which should not be a tool for partisan politics but rather he places himself above these minor political gains and set the interest of the general public as his foremost priority. He finally warned against misusing religion by factoring it into partisan politics as this is a calamity that forces religion to be a factor in an equation that it has nothing to do with.
